Online Bookstores
Major online bookstores such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble sell new books at significant discounts to local bookstore pricing. There are many other Internet bookstores to choose from, but Amazon and Barnes & Noble have the biggest inventories and do the majority of the business in this arena.
There is very little risk involved in shopping with these retailers and their shipping times are reasonable and fairly consistent. If you prefer using new books you can save some money here, particularly if you’re studying English, History, Philosophy or Political Science and are required to read several novels or trade books for your classes. Both Amazon and Barnes & Noble offer 30 day returns privileges. Amazon trumps Barnes & Noble with the safer cash back refund to the consumer, where as Barnes and Noble will only offer you credit towards your next purchase.
If you’re willing to study from used books, you can find significantly better deals than the new prices offered at Internet bookstores like Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
